Mykola K. explains: "I could see the Jews through the barbed wire surrounding the ghetto, but the policemen did not allow us to speak with them." (Witness N°1454, interviewed in Povorsk, on April 28, 2012).
Povorsk is located about 25 kilometers to the east of Kowel. In 1921, the Jewish population was only 37, but by the 1930s, it had increased to more than 200.
German units occupied the town on June 26, 1942. An open ghetto was established in August or September 1941. All the Jews of the village were murdered in September 1942, there were around 200 people.
