Witness interview

Anna B. evokes: "When the police were drinking, they mistreated the Jews, for example, they made them go in the river in winter." (Witness N°444, interviewed in Yeremichi, on May 01, 2011)

Historical note

Yeremichi is a village located 50 kilometers northeast of Baranovichi. Just prior to the German invasion, the village had some 700 inhabitants, of which about 100 were Jewish. The village was under German occupation from 1941 to 1944.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

In August 1941, the German authorities established a small enclosed ghetto. The synagogue and two other houses on Shkolnaya Street were surrounded with barbed wire. Sometime before the end of October 1941, a large pit was dug in a meadow behind the village. On November 4, all the Jews were gathered on the central square. There was a roll call, and all the Jews had to place their personal belongings onto a truck. After the roll call the Jews were formed into a column and escorted towards the pit in the meadow, where they were shot.
