Witness interview

Petro N. recalls: "A Jewish teacher was married with a Volksdeutsche and had got a daughter. This one was shot into the school, in front of the class. Then, a pit was dug for her and she was buried." (Witness N°974, interviewed in Maksimovka, on June 06, 2010)

Historical note

Former Jewish agricultural colony. The village doesn’t exist any more today, and the location is close to the village of Maksimovka. It was a member of the former Jewish district of Satlindorf created in the 1920’s, and consisting of dozens of Jewish agricultural colonies, the first ones established at the beginning of the 19th century. The village was occupied from 1941 to 1943.There were about 30 Jewish families living there before the war.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

The Jews from Dovgivka and the surrounding villages were gathered in the Klub for a few days, then they were killed in a pit in a field a few kilometers away. A half-Jewish girl was also killed in the village in front or her classroom. There were around 400 victims.
