Ivan Y., born in 1923, remembered: “The German troops were strict but didn’t treat the local population badly. During the occupation, the Volksdeutsche’s families stayed in Hirske until the end of the German retreat. The rural council nominated policemen. The function of these policemen was to keep order and to protect the local population from bandits." (Witness N°1827, interviewed in Hirske, on September 02, 2013)
Hirske is situated about 60km southwest of Lviv. According to the research findings, there were few Jewish families living in Hirske before World War II. Some of them were farmers, others were merchants.
All the Jews lining in the village were shot by Germans in the forest. No more information available.
