Witness interview

Yanina T.: "About 3000 people were killed inside the fort. We were told that people were taken in cars to be killed almost every day. My aunt saw the Jews saying goodbye with their white handkerchiefs. We could hear the gunfire." (Witness N°390 interviewed in November, 2010)

"On January 7th, 1943, I was removing some snow from the road. It was icy cold. Civilians in 3 big trucks followed by a car passed by
and were forced to get off near the fort. Immediately after, I heard submachine gunfire followed by isolated gunshots."[Testimony of Ivan T., born in 1895, farmer, RG 13(3) p.1-24]

Historical note

Naumovichi is a small village located a few kilometers north of Grodno. The village was under German occupation from 1941 to 1944.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

Nearly 3000 people from Grodno, including Jews from the intelligentsia were killed during the war in an old fort close to the village. Their corpses were buried in a yard nearby. At the end of the war, Operation 1005 was carried out at the fort, with the victims’ bodies being exhumed and burned in order to hide all traces of the crime. As most of the Aktions were carried out inside the fort, there were nearly no eyewitnesses of the shootings, but several testimonies collected in the field by the Yahad In - Unum team mention columns of trucks taking the victims to the fort.
