Witness interview

Valentina G. recalls: "While working on the fields, I saw people lining up. At the beginning, the children were killed, by being hit by shovels. Other people behind them attacked the aggressors with their shovels. These adults were all shot." (Eyewitness N°263, interviewed in Ladozhskaya, on March 31, 2012)

"Right from the first day of the occupation of the district of Ladozhskaya, the Germans started with the methodical extermination of the Jewish population. The German executioners dragged thousands of innocent citizens into the river Kuban, the babies clung to their mothers, who threw themselves into the stream.According to different depositions about 3.000 Jews were murdered." [Act, drawn up by the Soviet extraordinary commission in 1943, RG-22.002M/7021-16.]

Historical note

The Jews living in Ladozhskaya during the Second World War were refugees from the Western part of the Soviet union. There is no more information available about their fate.
