Losevo | Krasnodar

Losevo is a hamlet located on the banks of the river Chelbas, 156 km north-east of Krasnodar. The hamlet was founded in 1795 by the Don Cossack Dionisey Losev. As we know, the Jews didn’t live in Losevo but some of them evacuated to the hamlet after the outbreak of WWII. Losevo was occupied by German troops at the beginning of August, 1942.

According to the local witnesses and a school history teacher several Jewish families, who were hiding in a goosery in the hamlet, were denounced by the locals and killed in the clay pits located outside Losevo. In all, there were about ten victims. There is no exact information about when the shooting occurred but it must have been in late August or early September 1942.
