1 Killing site(s)
Anatoliy O. evokes: "On the day of the mass shooting, the Jews were taken on foot (only old people were taken on trucks) and were surrounded on two sides by Germans and the Police. The Jews knew they were going to be killed when they were put into the columns." (Witness N°3, interviewed in Mikulino, on September 23, 2009).
Mikulino is situated 69 kilometers west- northwest of Smolensk. In 1939, there were 556 Jews living in the town.
Mobile units occupied the town in July 1941. Soon, an administration was organized in order to register the Jews of the town. The Jews had to wear yellow patches. A ghetto was established on August 1941. This ghetto was guarded by the Russian police. The ghetto was liquidated by the Germans on February 22, 1942. The perpetrators were members from Einsatzkommando 9 and local Russian police.
