Witness interview

Raisa Ch. "They brought the Jews to our village in winter. They stayed with villagers in their houses. We had a large family which is why in our family they placed only one old Jew. Then, in the beginning of spring they were shot behind the garden in the anti-tank ditch prepared before the War. After the shooting, being curious we went there to take a look. The pit was not covered, so we could see the corpses. I know that after, maybe even that night, the bodies were burned." (Eyewitness N°1573, interviewed in Hulyaivka, on August 13, 2012)

Soviet archives

"On the 13th of March, 1942, the Soviet citizens brought from western Ukraine and the city of Odessa were shot. Before being executed, all citizens were placed in the barn of the kolkhoz, and then they were brought in groups of 100-150 for the shooting which lasted from morning to evening. Later, the isolated executions of little groups of those who had escaped earlier but were found, occurred continuously until the arrival of the Red Army. In all, there were about 200 executions." [Act drawn up by Soviet extraordinary commission in 1944 ; RG-22.002M/7021-69/75]
