Witness interview

Maria G. : "The villagers were forced to watch [the executions] to learn obedience and the Germans said to the men: "If you join the partisans, the same will happen to you."" (Witness N°962 interviewed in 2010)

B162-3511. "I even saw that some pregnant women came holding a child in her arms and another by the hand and were then disembowelled by the guard. The women who had been stabbed were then carried into the pit by their companions. Several times, I saw the two guards hit women in the belly with the butt of their guns, so hard that they screamed in a horrible way."

Historical note

Small village which was a former Jewish agricultural colony. The village is situated between the cities of Dnipopetrovsk and Krivoy Rog. It was a member of the former Jewish district of Satlindorf created in the 1920’s, and consisting of dozens of Jewish agricultural colonies, the first ones established at the beginning of the 19th century. The village was occupied from 1941 to 1943.
