Nikolay B.: “I followed the column at the beginning, up to the river. Some Jews screamed, others were calm. A 90 year-old woman was beaten by the Germans who wanted to know where she was hiding her gold. In the column, there was a cart with weapons, machine guns and rifles. The mayor ordered the cart returned. The mayor and the policemen were on another cart.” (Witness N°643, interviewed in Molyatichi, on June 18, 2013).
Molyatichi is located in the Krichev district. It was a shtetl before the war. A group of Jews left the village before the arrival of the Germans.
According to Nikolay B. after being forced to leave their houses, the Jews were gathered on Soviet territory and were forced to undress. According to some sources, between 70 and 122 Jews were killed in Molyatichi in November 1941. Nikolay B., after following the column, witnessed the shooting of the Jews. They were taken out of the column in groups of three before being shot. The younger ones were taken in groups of four. They had to stand facing the grave and were shot with a bullet in the back. Some children were thrown alive into the grave. There were nine shooters: six Germans and three local policemen, who used machine guns. According to Nikolay B., one week after the shooting, the Germans organized an auction to sell off the Jews’ belongings.
