Witness interview

Witnesses interviewed: 4. (N°96, 97, 98, 99). Including two eyewitnesses. (N°96, 98). Guennadi Vassilievich O. (N°98): "Later, we saw… I personally saw the trucks bringing the Jews here. They were lined up on the edge of this pit. I saw the machine gun in action, the gun itself was to the side, so I couldn’t really see it. It was probably sitting on the cemetery wall itself, because all of this happened between the cemetery and the river. And afterwards, we saw army officers armed with guns killing the people. This, we saw."

Soviet archives

RG-22.002M/7021-92/213. "During the occupation, the extermination of civilians and the deportation to perform forced labour in Germany were planned carefully. During the occupation, a total of 6,584 were shot, tortured to death, burned alive or hanged. Over 8,000 people were deported to perform forced labour. Thus, of the 42,062 inhabitants before the war, only 22,016 remained."
