Raisa V., born in 1932, recalls: “In 1942, I saw 3 or 4 very long columns with more than a hundred people in each one. The Jews were brought to the gas station located in the field. They were marched with their belongings. They came from Pyatigorsk. They passed by the central street that was called Lenin Street back then. They cried because I think they knew that they would be killed. They were guarded by many Germans armed with machine guns. Later, I heard the bursts of gunfire.” (Testimony n°569 interviewed in Nezlobnaya on October 22nd, 2015)
“In August 1942, the fascist invaders shot the Soviet citizens in the anti-tank trench situated north-east of Nezlobnaya, 1km away from the gas station. 351 corpses were discovered there. According to the testimony of Anna A., a lot of victims were buried alive. On September 8th and October 25th, 1942, the Germans shot a group of Soviet citizens on the territory of the fruit trees nursery. ” [Act drawn up by the State Extraordinary Commission in July 1943; RG22.002M:7021-17-10]
Nezlobnaya is located on the banks of the Podkumok River, 190 km south-east of Stavropol. The settlement was founded in 1786 as stanitsa, a village inside a Cossack host. By the end of the 19th century there were brick and tile factories in the village. In the beginning of the 20th century Nezlobnaya became an industrial village. There were enterprises for wheat processing; the mill, founded in 1908 by Kashchenko, has become one of the largest in the North Caucasus. A school was opened at that time. Later Nezlobnaya became an important cargo transshipment and trade center. In the 1920s several kolkhozes were established in the village. According to the census, just 9 Jews lived in Nezlobnaya in 1939. They were engaged in small-scale trade and handcraft.
Nezlobnaya was occupied by the German troops in August 1942. The local Jews were executed along with the Georgiyevsk Jews right after the occupation. On this day the Jews were rounded-up and taken to the gas station, located in the field situated north-east of Nezlobnaya. In all, 351 Jews were murdered in Nezlobnaya in an antitank trench, located 1 km from the gas station. Along with 25 Soviet activists murdered in early September and late October 1942.
