Historical note

Odelsk is a village located 30km south of Grodno, close to the Polish border. The village was under German occupation from 1941 to 1944. There were a few Jewish families living in the village before the war. There was also a Jewish colony called Colony Isaac, 1km away from Odelsk, home mostly to Jewish peasants. They would visit Odelsk to go to the synagogue. Today, there are no traces of this colony.

Holocaust by bullets in figures

The Odelsk Jews were deported to the Sokolka ghetto fairly early, in a city located in modern day Poland, from where they were later sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. Jews from the Colony Isaac met the same fate. According to Stanislav P. however, interviewed by Yahad - In Unum, a small fenced ghetto was established for a period of a few weeks, before the deportation of the local Jews. A few Jews were shot in the Jewish cemetery, according to witness Anton P., who stated that they were trying to hide.
