1 Killing site(s)
Maria F. recalls: "During the night the local people were requisitioned. They were numerous. My husband was among those people. In total they were about ten or twenty. They had to take shovels with them. When my husband was taken, I thought that they were going to kill him too. All those people had to dig a pit one meter or one and a half deep. That’s what my husband told me afterwards." (Witness N°1546, interviewed in Tabaky, on August 5, 2012).
Tabaky is located on the district of Odesa. The Jews of the village were merchants or artisans.
Thanks to Yahad’s investigation, we interviewed witness Maria F. (Witness N°1546, interviewed in Tabaky, on August 5, 2012), Gagauz of the village of Tabaky. She gave us details of the persecution of the Jews in her village. , for example, she explains that she saw the Jewish column passing by her house. She hid their 16 children in her house. Because she had typhus, the Germans were scared of her and went back. She remembers too that there was only one shooting and that the Germans gathered 10 or 20 people to dig the grave. After the shooting, her husband had to move the corpses into the grave.
