Ivan U. recalls: "The couriers used to come to the homes to tell the villagers to take shovels and go to the selsoviet. Once there, the chief of the selsoviet or Primar, which it was called at that time, pointed to the place where the pit had to be dug for them. They requisitioned about ten people at the same time. Once, my uncle was requisitioned. They were summoned in the evening; guarded by gendarmes they dug the pit all night long. They went back home in the morning after the mass shooting and once the pit was covered." (Witness N°1533, interviewed in Dmytrivka, on August 01, 2012)
"The Romanian gendarmes started to rob and commit violence toward the Soviet citizens and at the same time started to exterminate them in mass, including women, the elderly and children. From the first days of the occupation, a police post was installed in the territory of Deljiler (Dmytrivka nowadays) headed by Ion Ionce who conducted the shootings and personally shot Soviet citizens without judgment or investigation. The village was a part of Bessarabia which in 1940 was annexed by Soviet Union. After outbreak of the WWII the village was controlled by the Romanians.
About 600 Jews (supposing from Odessa) were executed by Romanian gendarmerie on March 03, 1942.
