Witness interview

Vassili Alekseïevitch K. explains: "Yes, this happened close to the pit. So, one Jew left the group and started running. He was running in a field, behind which there was a little forest. He started running in the direction of the forest. All the Germans started to shoot. Then, the wife of this Jew started running behind him. She was wounded in her leg. She started to limp and fell. Her husband turned around at this moment. He could’ve escaped into the forest, and the Germans probably wouldn’t have caught him. But, when he saw his wife limp and fall, he came back towards her." ( Witness N°571, interviewed in Kalynivka, on January 9, 2008).
