Entrevista del testigo

Yevdokiya B. recalls: “The Jews were shot in the forest. I was requisitioned to dig the grave. The Germans requisitioned me. They told me to bring my shovel. Those who were requisitioned with me had to dig a huge grave. The requisitioned left before the shooting. We could only see it from far away, from the street, and mostly heard the shots.” (Witness N°1857, interviewed in Loyeva, on September 9, 2013).

Nota histórica

Loyeva is situated about 43km south of Ivano-Frankivsk. Under the Polish administration, the town was occupied by the Soviets in September 1939.  The town was occupied in early July 1941 by the Germans. According to witness N° 1857 Yevdokia B., there were only several Jewish families living in the town.

Holocausto por balas en cifras

According to the inscription on a monument, about 2,000 Jews originally from Transcarpathia and the surrounding villages were murdered in the forest, on the outskirts of Loyeva. Witness N°1857, interviewed by Yahad, was requisitioned to dig the pit. Yevdokia B. could not give us more details about the shooting because those who dug were released before the execution.
