Sergey P.: “Closed metal trucks arrived and stopped next to these large graves. The doors were opened and blue smog poured out. There were a lot of dead, naked corpses inside. In the village of Polykovichi, Mogilev region, the German monsters burned and buried alive Soviet citizens en masse. One witness described the events: 'In the spring of 1943, I was ordered by the Germans to dig a pit. When it was ready, two trucks full of children aged from 3 to 12 arrived. The Germans threw them alive in the pit, shot them dead and filled it in, although around sixty children were buried alive.” [Report of the Soviet extraordinary commission, drawn up in 1944; RG22.022M/7021-88/50]
Polykovichi is a small farm village first mentioned in 1501. It is famous for its well with water considered to have healing properties.
